Brussels 2014 - FAQ
[For Awful Quotation]

Q:  A:
What time of the year are you planning to host IH2014? During summer, between mid July and mid August
Isn't that high season for tourism in Western Europe? You're right. Book your transport early and you'll get a good deal. As far as hotels in Brussels are concerned, it's the cheapest time of the year with incredible deals, especially for a European capital.
BTW, why 2014? Latest European host was Cardiff in 2004. By 2014, InterHash will have completed another round-the-world tour and we believe the time will be right to come to Europe again.
Should you fail for 2014, would you bid again? Not fuck*ng likely! We gave you enough notice, right? ;-)
Should I vote for Brussels 2014, will I get a free T-shirt? No. We want to save your money for the event itself, not the bid. Also, we assume you support a bid for the location and its quality, not for the freebies.
Talking about location, why Brussels? Beers (most types in the world), food (did we mention chocolate?), track record of organising great hash weekends (e.g. EuroHash'97) and no problem with drinking in public nor on the buses (did we mention beer before?).
Will the venue be central and what's the plan after midnight? We have found a suitable venue downtown, within 3-km from the historical centre. That venue can host up to 10,000 people at a price we can afford. On the last w/e of June, it hosts a yearly music festival that runs until 2 am. If you're still thirsty after that, there is no legal closing time for pubs in Belgium. FYI, Delirium Cafe (world record for most beers available - Guinness Book 2004) remains open until 5 am any weekend of the year.
So you've got the venue covered but do you have enough hotel rooms for us lot? And at what price? There are approx. 23,000 beds within a 3-km radius from the historical centre and we'll need "only" 20% of that capacity. Moreover, the majority of customers in Brussels being business people, hotels are desperate to fill the void due to summer holiday - our target period for hosting IH2014. FYI, we're planning to use the same booking agency that secured us excellent deals for EuroHash '97.
Venues and hotels all within 3-km radius from the historical centre sounds great but how many hours will we have to spend on buses for commuting to the run sites? Belgium is a small country ;-) Even better, there is a big forest as well as plenty of nice hash-compliant countryside just outside Brussels, not to mention the many residential neighbourhoods providing BMPH3 with challenging city/park trails all year round. At this stage, we estimate that 80% of the 25+ trails will be within half an hour bus drive from the downtown loading area. BTW, before you ask, we also found a bus company that can provide 80 buses + drivers during the summer holiday. And there will be beer onboard!!
I've read so many mentions of beer I'm totally confused now! Think about us! Every visit to a Brussels pub is a nightmare taking into consideration the choice. We are spoiled rotten! To make things easier for you, we're considering limiting the selection to 7 different brews for the main event, still making it the largest choice of beer on any given Interhash ever. For the connoisseurs, likely choice would be pilsner, hefeweizen, abbey blonde, abbey dark, gueuze, cherry and trappist - all Belgians of course!
